How we rank
Every PawRanked list is built the same way, so you can compare picks across categories.
The PawRanked score (0–10)
Each product is scored on five weighted criteria:

| Effectiveness | 30% | Does it do the job? Category-specific evidence, labels and long-term owner feedback. |
| Safety & label clarity | 25% | Species and weight guidance, warnings, vet guidance, materials. |
| Build quality & durability | 20% | How it holds up after weeks and months, not days. |
| Ease of use | 15% | Setup, cleaning, how pets and owners actually get on with it. |
| Value | 10% | What you get relative to similar options. |
Scores are our editorial judgement. They are not Amazon star ratings, and we never display Amazon prices, ratings or review counts, because they change constantly. Every "Check price on Amazon" button takes you to the live listing.
Sources
Product labels and manufacturer specifications; guidance from bodies such as the CDC, the FDA, the Veterinary Oral Health Council and veterinary associations; peer-reviewed research where it exists; and patterns across large numbers of long-term owner reviews.
Featured partners
Some brands pay us for featured placement. Their products are always marked ★ Featured partner and are pinned to the top of the categories they sponsor. They still get a full write-up with real cons. We only accept partners whose products we'd be comfortable recommending. See our affiliate disclosure.
Updates
Rankings are reviewed and the site rebuilds every morning at 7 AM Eastern. Each ranking shows its own "Last updated" date.
